Dare we say it? Is fun Atalanta back. An 8-2 drubbing of poor Salernitana should have Atalanta fans and Serie A on watch, as this was an unthinkable score line for any team, save a vintage Atalanta squad of three years ago.
But boy did the new frontline of Rasmus Hojlund, Ademola Lookman, and Jeremie Boga shine! Five goals, two assists, and two penalties created is an extraordinary return for any attack over four matches, let alone one. If this is a sign of what’s to come, sign me up.
There’s not a whole lot more that can be said, the scoreline speaks for itself. But it is worth mentioning that, Atalanta is the first team to score eight goals since 1996 (Inter Milan versus Padova), and the first Serie A squad ever to have seven different goal scorers in the same match.
We’ll enjoy this one for awhile, but we’ll enjoy it even more if it is a sign of what’s to come the rest of 2023. Tifosi have been clamoring for a true offensive outburst. I’d reckon this counts, but let’s hope that this can be repeatable against more stout defenses. Not a bad opponent to test this offense against next week!
